FLEX FLASH FEBRUARY 2008
Hello FLEX Fans!
Hope all is going well for you and your families. FLEX has been busy in January!

Review:

- Seminar Finding a location for meetings has been a challenge. We were not able to find a place and receive confirmation on it until the Friday before the seminar so invitations went out late.  Sorry about that, next time we will try to give you more notice.  5 people were able to make it. Thank you guys for coming! Hope to see you again at one of the next seminars.

- German group Was also faced with a location problem. There are about 10 people on the sign up list. About half of them are native speakers and the other half would like to brush up on their language skills. We also have some that would like a morning class and the other half an evening class. In order to start two groups we need more people. So if you would like to join or know of anyone who would like to, please ask them to contact FLEX www.ccwa-flex.org.  Next meeting will be announced on the FLEX calendar and an e-mail will go out to the group members.

- Meetings FLEX attended a meeting with the Vancouver Youth Theatre and is in talks with this non-profit organization to become a standing committee on its board to continue on our quest of becoming non-profit. There will be a follow up meeting and some paper work that we need to file before reaching our goal.  We will keep you up-to-date.

- Fan news The FLEX Fan Family has grown to over 80 newsletter fans. We are receiving more input from our Fans about upcoming or ongoing events in Clark County. If you have news you would like to share with others, please e-mail us. Thank you to all of you that have contributed to the website!

- Survey Thank you to the few that replied. It will help us to evaluate our seminar agenda and better plan for the future. We hope to receive some feedback from those of you that do not attend meetings, seminars or events. We would like to know what we could do, if anything to assist your homeschooling journey.

This month we would like to spotlight HOMESCHOOLING:
Some research institutes estimate that between 1.9 to 2.4 million children were home educated during 2005-2006*. The "home schooling" movement started in the late 1960's and early 1970's.  One common theme in the homeschool philosophies (of Holt and Moores) is that home education should not be an attempt to bring the school construct into the home, or a view of education as an academic preliminary to life. They viewed it as a natural, experiential aspect of life that occurs as the members of the family are involved with one another in daily living.  Demographically each country has very different laws on homeschooling. Some countries have even outlawed homeschooling (for example Germany).

We hope you will have a good month, keep your information coming, send us questions or ideas and we will see you soon at one of our upcoming events!
