Creative Kids MagazineThe magazine bursts with games, stories, and opinions all by and for kids ages 8-14. In the pages of Creative Kids you will find such fun activities as: brain teasers, contests, stories, artwork, poetry, pen pals, mysteries, and much more. They are especially interested in submissions for the following sections: Write On, Dare to Dream Big, and Spotlight on Creative Kids. In their Write On section, kids write 300-500 word opinion pieces on issues they care about. Recent ones have included bike safety, recycling, cliques, and space travel. In the Dare to Dream Big section, kids write 300-500 word essays about a friend, sibling, or classmate who has done something good for his or her community. Recent essays included a story on a girl who helps the homeless and a boy who participates in Relay for Life fundraisers. Generally, we like to include some pictures to go along with these essays. The Spotlight section is a brief Q&A section on a Creative Kid. Recent features include a girl who created a board game that was published, a boy who plays on a competitive soccer league, a girl who participates in community theater, and a girl who published her first novel at age 11. Generally, kids submit a letter describing themselves or a friend who they think should be featured. The staff puts together the survey, the kid fills it out, and returns it to us, and we print it. Creative Kids would be quite interesting to have a homeschooled child write an opinion piece about whether homeschooling or regular schooling has been a better option for him or her (probably would work best with a child who has experienced both situations).
