FREE GEEK ~ Build Computers Program

Community Technology Center

1731 SE 10th Avenue, Portland

FREE GEEK can teach you how to build computers. If you agree to complete six computers, they will teach you the process. You can keep the sixth computer you complete for your own personal use.

As you learn more in the build program, you'll have the opportunity to become more involved in assisting with or even teaching the workshops or some of the introductory material.

To sign up for the Build program, please attend one of their daily tours. They are offered at noon and six pm, Tuesday through Saturday. You'll learn more about all of their programs and then they'll ask about you. They don't require any prior knowledge; in this interview they can advise you on where to start at FREE GEEK in order to learn what you need to know to start out in the workshops. There is a sequence of educational tasks most build students go through wherein you'll learn about the insides of computers, preparatory to actually putting them together.

The Build Program is great for people of all ages.  If a person is under 16 years of age, he or she must be accompanied by an adult while volunteering.

Build workshops run 5 days a week, nearly all the time they're open. You must sign up in advance for each class you wish to attend.
