ExCEL Science Olympiad Team
The ExCEL Science Olympiad Teams are made up of 4th-9th graders for the
middle school division and 9th-12th graders for the high school division. There
are 23 different events from all areas of science. Events include knowledge
areas such as Astronomy, Meteorology, Anatomy, and Ecology. There are laboratory
events such as Chemistry, Physics and Forensics and also building events such as
Towers, Airplanes, and Robots. Each team consists of 15 students and each
student competes in approximately 2-4 different events depending upon their
interests.
ExCEL has normally has two middle school teams and one high school team. Our
Alpha middle school team is the 2004, 2005, and 2007 Washington State Champion
Team. In 2007 our high school team placed 3rd in the State.
Science Olympiad is a great hands-on for students to get excited about
learning science. Competitions generally begin in January. The Regional
Competition is held here in Clark County in March and the State Competition is
held either at Clark College or Eastern Washington University each April.
